Do you ever feel like you are not good enough? Do you ever feel smaller or intimidated by other people? Do you ever feel invisible, like what you do or say doesn’t make sense? Do you try to be like somebody else? Do you wait for somebody to make you feel like you are worthy? Are you the girl or boy that spends time waiting to be validated? I have been there too. If people failed to tell me that I am pretty, I would feel my beauty eroding. I would compare myself with girls that had been said to be pretty. I look at my petite body and think of how I needed to get curvy. I even let people tell me that I wasn’t good enough. I would let them tell me how I needed fixing. I was the girl that thought that being told that I am pretty was priceless. I had turned myself to parking ticket waiting to be validated. I hit rock bottom when everybody no longer bothered to validate me. I felt so empty and hollow. I have never felt so unworthy in my life. Not even new clothes, makeup or friends could heal this imperfection in me. It was until I found worth in Jesus that I became revived.

Feeling unworthy can be triggered by various things. Some of us start to feel unworthy when something we used to use to draw worth to us no longer exists. We, humans, tend to draw our worth from things and people that are not everlasting. Take me for example, there was a time my worth came from my grades. I described myself and was described by others as the girl with good grades. At some point in my academic journey, my grades were good but not good enough to fit my description. I have never felt so unworthy, my voice was no longer important to myself and to others. May be what you look at as your own; the one that makes you feel like you are important is your money, your friend, your boyfriend, your girlfriend, your job, your looks etc. Have ever considered what would happen to you if you lost it, him or her? Do you have a guarantee that you will never lose it? Do you believe that what you have will never leave you? What happens when you age and you no longer turn heads? What will happen when you go bankrupt? What will happen when you get dumped? I am not trying to be a pessimist or wishing you bad luck; I am just saying that you are drawing your self- worth from the wrong place.

Where exactly should you draw your worth from? Which is this one thing that will never ever slip your fingertips? What is it that is eternal and everlasting? Well it’s very simple. You just need to draw your worth from who you are to God. You are His child and nothing will ever change that fact. See, God will never wake up one morning and dump you, fade away, fire you, label you bankrupt or just hate you. He will love you no matter what happens.

Isaiah 49:15, 16 “So the Lord answers, ‘Can a woman forget her own baby and not love the child she bore? Even if a mother should forget you, I will never forget you. Jerusalem, I can never forget you! I have written your name on the palms of my hands.’”

God says that His love for us is more that even that of a mother to a child. He finds us worthy enough to be engraved on His palm. He is the omnipotent God but He has found a space for you on His palms. You don’t need to seek to be loved by anyone else for the mightiest of them all has loved you more. To be loved by a great God like this is the best thing that can ever happen to you. I need to get excited as I am about this love that God has for us. May be I need to explain it like this. Think of your favorite celebrity; imagine the joy you would feel if he/she wrote your name on their palm or think about the pride you would feel, if your friend, boyfriend or girlfriend engraved your name on their palm. If that kind of joy comes about from the fact that normal mortal people did that for you; then what kind of worth do you feel in you when you realize that an immortal, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent God has written your name on His palms? Don’t you realize that the creator of everything on earth, the giver of life loves you more than anybody who will ever grace the earth?

Don’t you know that He loved you so much that He gave His only son to come and save us?

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

Before Jesus came, we were sinners. We had forgotten our creator and some of us had even dared to use what we called ‘science’ to condemn God. God could have decided to cast us out and create another world for His own. He had the power to crash us and flush us out of the surface of the earth. He had the means and the power but His love for us was greater. He did not forsake us when we forsake His will. He did not stop loving us when we forgot that He did love us. His love for us was, is and will remain greater than that of anyone else who will ever grace the earth. Don’t you see how great His love for us is? Imagine if you loved someone and they failed to reciprocate that love; they just continued to disregard you and make feel unworthy. Would still show them love? Would still wait for them to love you back? Let’s be honest, you would just move on and probably go on to hate them. Do you know that that’s not what God did? He actually did the extraordinary and His only son to come and save us. If that’s not love then I don’t know what is.

Don’t you know that He chose you for His own and loved you even when you were a sinner?

Ephesians 1:4-6 Even before the world was made, God had already chosen us to be His through our union with Christ, so that we would be Holy and without fault before Him. Because of His love God had already decided that through Jesus Christ, He would make us His sons and daughters-this was His pleasure and purpose.

Romans 5:8 But God has shown us how much He loved us- It was while we were still sinners that Christ died for us.

God knew us before we knew Him, Loved us even before we knew Him. He laid out a plan for us to be His even before He brought us to earth. He saw something special in us even before we were born. None else could ever love us more. If you don’t derive your worth from all this beautiful eternal magnificent love then you are missing out.

Why do you doubt that His great plans for you?

Jeremiah 29:11 I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for.

God has great plans for you, He has laid out His will for you and He will bring prosperity and bright future for you.

Why do you condemn yourself for things that you did in the past? Why do you declare that you are not worthy because of your sins?

Isaiah43:18-19 But the Lord says” Don’t cling to events of the past or dwell on what happened long ago. Watch for the new thing I am going to do. It is happening already-you can see it now! I will make a road through the wilderness and give you streams of water there.

We all have fallen short of God’s glory at some point in our lives. God is a loving and forgiving God. Once you repent your sins, God forgives and forgets all the sins. If God can forgive you, then who are you not to forgive yourself? Who are you to find yourself unworthy if God has already forgiven you?

Don’t you know that God will fight for you no matter what?

Isaiah43:4 I will give up whole nations to save your life because you are precious to me and because I love you and give you honor.

God is ready to fight for you. He is ready to let everything go just for your soul. He has even kept His promise by letting His son die on the cross for us. If that kind of sacrifice and promise doesn’t give you hope and security for your worth then I don’t know what else would. People promise to never leave you but once things get tough they leave without looking back. People promise and don’t keep their promises but God keeps His promises. He promised to fight for us and He does it every day, every hour, every minute, and every second.

Don’t you know that God will guide you in each and every step of your spiritual life?

Phillipians2:3 Because God is always at work in you to make you willing and able to obey His own purpose.

God loves us so much that He is always working to keep us as His people. He wants to keep to His will in which He has planned great things. He tries to keep us in the right lane so that we never go astray and never suffer. This kind of love is the best; no one is ever going to love us like God does.

With the constant knowledge of God’s riches, power and most of all love for us; you will never feel unworthy.

  1. I love this post! I speak on this to others all the time you have to know your worth and if others don’t recognize it then that’s their problem love yourself enough to know that you are enough!

  2. What people fail to see, because it is often difficult to see when you are the target of someone trying to make you feel worthless, is that they are only trying to deflect their own sense of worthlessness on you. They try to make you feel small in order to feel better about themselves. The best thing to do is pray for them but never take this as a personal reflection on your own self worth.

  3. I love it when you said, “If God can forgive you, then who are you not to forgive yourself? Who are you to find yourself unworthy if God has already forgiven you?” So, so true. God is amazing and He never fails to show me His love and that He is always there with me, even though I am so undeserving of such grace. Praise God!!!

  4. What an uplifting post! So many girls go through life trying to fill that need, only to be disappointed when those things don’t last. I, also, placed my worth in others; I would strive for perfect grades and perfection everywhere else in my life, only to have it all come crashing down. I think more girls need to read this message of seeking one’s worth in God because it is unfailing and unchanging. Thanks for sharing!

  5. ” I had turned myself to parking ticket waiting to be validated.” That’s what we do when we don’t believe who Christ says we are, which is our true value.

  6. When the devil is constantly whispering in our ears or yelling at us through the culture, we must cling to God’s truth about ourselves and find our worth in being His.
